Workshop Speaker Application

Ready to Inspire?

We are now accepting applications for presenters for the 2024 Full STEAM Ahead Middle School conference. APPLY TODAY! REGISTRATION ENDS March 15th, 2024.

We are looking for a diverse group of professionals in STEAM fields to share their knowledge with our students! Our workshop leaders will act as role models to our middle school youth: testaments to what they can accomplish.

The goal of the workshops is to inform, inspire, and engage our students. We recommend incorporating an interactive or hands-on portion into your workshop. This can be an experiment, an exercise, a relevant game, artifacts or equipment, or a team activity. Your imagination is the limit!

This year’s event will be Friday, June 21, 2024 at the VCU College of Engineering Building. Workshops will be offered hourly, at a given time, based on the specific tracks chosen by the attendees. More details about last year’s conference can be found on our Conference Schedule page. Workshop Tracks will be announced once all speakers have been chosen and contacted.

For the opportunity to lead a workshop, please take a moment to fill out the following form. The application includes basic contact information, a brief bio, a description of your proposed workshop, and an activity for your proposed workshop. If your application is accepted, your bio and workshop description will be featured online for students and parents. We will announce accepted workshops shortly after applications close.

Remember- our students are excited to learn about who you are and why you are passionate about your career! Your energy will leave a powerful impression.

  1. 50 min-1 hour workshops, must request if you want a longer time frame for your class, 2 hour max. You can sign up to teach your workshop twice too!

  2. All workshops are paired with some sort of interactive activity (game, competition, storyline, art and craft project, design, create or build something, etc)

  3. Presenters are encouraged to make a powerpoint presentation to facilitate your lesson plan. Remember these are middle school students. Anything visual is a plus.

  4. You will need to provide a short description of your workshop and a title for website, marketing purposes and for students when registering for their workshops by May 1.

  5. If you are unsure of how to structure your workshop, or maybe this is your first time presenting and you need some direction on what to do or how to make an activity suitable for 11-14 year olds, we can provide you with some workshop development support.

  6. CodeVA will provide all materials/supplies needed. We will also provide laptops, iPads and IT support.
